News from the past...
1976 - The Squash Club began and two courts were built at a cost of approximately £25,000.
The membership rose steadily to nearly 400 members, demand was high for the 2 courts. There were 100 names on the waiting list join.
The low stone wall next to the bowling green, seen upon approaching the Squash Club, was painted white to 'assist lady drivers'.
1980 - A third court was built at a cost of approximately £30,000. Although originally planned to be a glass back court, funding proved elusive so an ordinary court on a concrete raft was built instead.
Upstairs, the room overlooking the third court was walled across and became a snooker room. Although not large enough to use a conventional snooker cue, pool cues sufficed. Occasionally the sound of cues hitting the wall could be heard. A curtain drawn across a gap in the wall sufficed as an entrance.
1982 - Barry Prudham shot a police sergeant and was found in the grounds of the Tennis, Bowls and Squash Club several days later. Andy and Ray Sedman were on the bar in the Squash Club at the time.
1997 - James Wilstrop plays at Malton, aged 14, now a professional squash player, highest world ranking: 2.
Graham Milner takes several players on an annual excursion for a ride down the river on a boat, Andy Sedman falls overboard and Terry throws his phone in to the murky depths.
Jamie Hopwood plays Nick Matthew, British National Champion 2006 & 2009, at Malton Squash Club.
2008 - Clubman of the Year was Steve Mort for his dedication to the Club, he will be missed by many when he moves out of the area. Steve Towse was most improved player of the year.
2009 - Cubman of the Year was Paul Hadfield for his long standing services to the Club. Jonathan Everitt was most improved player of the year.
